Hca220 - In the realm of healthcare communication there are often times where a patient may have views on their health that do not agree with mainstream medicine. Because of this doctors often will become frustrated, and not be so willing to work out a plan that takes into account the beliefs of the patients and their families. Hca 220 - One such case is Lena who is an immigrant from Southeast Asia, and despite fainting in class wishes that her friend had not called an ambulance because it is her belief that she can get well on her own. Lena's beliefs provide for the holistic methods of treatments to be fist, and only second should medical attention be looked for.
Hca230 - The doctor who sees Lena in the hospital is not willing to consider her beliefs on getting better, and quickly becomes aggravated with her lack of concern about her health. Lena was unresponsive, and though clearly not feeling well felt that she should not be here, and as such was not willing to stay, and having a medical assistant restrain her. Though this was not right on the part of the medical assistant, the medical assistant did not even try to talk to Lena, instead walked into the room and yelling at her that she was sick. Hca 230 - Promoting effective communication about health issues is, “a a fundamental ingredient in virtually every form of medicine and health.” (Calderon, 2004)
